How to Transfer Your Domain to Olly Olly

Just signed up for Olly Olly’s SEO services? Way to go! You’re about to get found online by a huge pool of potential customers. But to make this happen, you’ll first need to transfer your domain to us. Sounds complicated? Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Just follow the steps highlighted below to get it done quickly.

What Is A Domain Transfer?

Before we tell you all there is to know about transferring your domain, let’s start with the basics.

What Is a Domain?

A domain is nothing more than your website’s address on the Internet, like “yourbusiness.com.” It’s what people type into their browsers to access your website.

What Is a Domain Transfer?

A domain transfer is the action of moving your domain from one company (called a registrar) to another.

This isn’t much different from changing your phone service provider while keeping the same phone number. In this case, you’ll be moving your domain to a GoDaddy registrar managed by Olly Olly.

Why Do You Need to Transfer Your Domain to Olly Olly?

Transferring your domain to Olly Olly reduces your stress level by taking a few things off your plate. We:

  1. Make sure your website runs smoothly, by taking care of all the small technical details.
  2. Handle billing for your primary domain, so that’s one less thing for you to worry about.

Meanwhile, you can fully focus on growing your business and providing the very best service to your customers!

How to Request Your EPP/Transfer Code via Email From a Marketing Agency or Third Party

To transfer your domain to us, you’ll first need to obtain what’s called an EPP/Transfer code.

Is your domain currently owned or managed by someone else? To make your life easier, we’ve prepared a simple template you can use to request the code:

Hello,

This is [Your Name] with [Your Business Name].

I want to transfer my domain, [Your Domain], to a new account.

Please provide me with the EPP/Transfer code to transfer the domain.

Thank you.

Received your code? Please send it our way as soon as possible. Why? Because a transfer takes 7 days once it’s initiated. And unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do there to speed things up…

⚠️ Make sure you keep your code secure and use it quickly to avoid unauthorized access to your domain. ⚠️

Where to Find Your EPP/Transfer Code: A Look at Popular Registrars

Do you own your domain and/or don’t have external help managing it? In that case, you won’t be able to simply send the registrar an email in which you ask for the code. You’ll need to log in to the account yourself to get it.

It’s a bit more work but nothing that can’t be done!

If you forgot the login details to your domain, start by contacting your registrar’s customer support to recover them.

If you have them, we’ve broken down for you the process in place at the most popular registrars:

Some Common Domain Transfer Issues

Not able to transfer your domain even though you provided Olly Olly with your EPP code?

Here are a few common reasons you might want to look into:

  • Awaiting owner approval: The transfer process may be waiting for the domain owner, most likely you, to approve the request. Check your inbox for confirmation emails.
  • Wrong admin email address: The transfer approval email is sent to the admin email on file for the domain. Make sure it’s the correct one.
  • Domain is locked: Some domains will be locked by default to prevent unauthorized transfers. Make sure to unlock your domain through your current registrar’s settings.
  • Expired domain: If your domain has expired, you’ll first need to renew it with your current registrar before you can initiate the transfer.
  • Domain set to private: Domains with privacy protection enabled may require you to disable this feature before the transfer.
  • 60-day post-renewal waiting period: Domains usually cannot be transferred within 60 days of being renewed. You’ll need to wait until this period passes.
  • 60-day ownership update waiting period: If you’ve updated your domain’s ownership information recently, there might be a 60-day waiting period before you can transfer it.

What Happens to Your Site During the Waiting Period?

If you’re currently in a post-renewal or update waiting period, we can still put your Olly Olly website live on your domain, as long as you have your login details and agree to share them with us.

Not comfortable doing that? We understand! In that case, we can provide you with a list of all the needed changes and your Client Onboarding Specialist can assist you through screen sharing, if necessary, to make sure you don’t miss any step.
