Sometimes, Google users or third-party tools can make suggestions—or even automatic changes—to your GBP without your knowledge. But don’t worry: with GBP Guardian, you’ll be notified and can approve or reject them in seconds.
Here’s how to stay in control of your listing:
Step 1: Open GBP Guardian
Head to the “GBP Guardian” section from your dashboard.
- If you only have one GBP connected, you’ll go straight to its dashboard.
- If you have more than one, click on the one you want to review.
Step 2: Check for Publicly Suggested Changes (Also Called Public Suggestions)
You’ll see suggested changes in two places:
- “Action Center” on the dashboard
- “Profile Details,” where an alert will show next to any field with a proposed change
Click to view the suggestion and choose to “Approve” or “Reject” it.
What Are Public Suggestions?
Google allows the public to suggest edits to business listings, including your hours, phone number, website, or even whether you’re permanently closed. These suggestions can be approved automatically if you don’t take action in time.
Why Does This Matter?
Acting quickly on these suggestions helps:
- Protect your accuracy: If you don’t respond, Google might accept the change for you. That could lead to showing the wrong hours, a broken link, or a phone number that sends leads to someone else.
- Prevent lost business: Misinformation, like an incorrect address or “closed” status, can directly cost you sales. Approving or rejecting changes helps keep customers coming in.
